At the end of the 1940's the air traffic grow rapid and the airlines wished larger airplanes. To satisfy the demand the L-049 Constellation was stretched to the Super Constellation L-1049. It now offered place for 95-109 passengers. 254 planes were sold. Northwest  Airlines flew its first Lockheed L-1049 Constellation in 1955.
